The Definitive 2017 Southern California Taco Festival Guide

It’s sometimes hard to know what came first: the party or the taco? These celebrations seek answers stuffed between corn shells and kickass music. A good argument can be made that Southern California taco festivals are the best in the world. Not just because the gourmet taco truck scene started here (even though it did). Not because it is the region that originated taco cart catering . Why then? Because the combination of craft beers and tequilas, and a fiercely competitive field of taco vendors, have fostered a lofty plane for taco gourmands. Taco festivals in this region are professional affairs. The season begins in March and lasts at least until September. Are Healthy Tacos Less Tasty than Unhealthy Tacos?

It’s time to get real on judging “good” and “bad” foods. Tacos can be healthy or unhealthy – it all depends on how they are made and how many you eat. To settle the question once and for all on healthy vs. unhealthy tacos, there is a pretty straightforward equation. In terms of calories, the shell matters quite a bit: corn tortillas have fewer calories and more fiber than the flour version, and with both, a fried version will add calories. But given that there are about a million, perhaps more, variations on what ingredients you or your taco caterers put into that shell, the healthiness factor can go in all kinds of directions.
